Locals and guests have 50 km of perfectly prepared trails to choose from, and everyone, whatever their style, is sure to find a suitable circuit out of the 18 available. The range of cross-country skiing in Saalfelden Leogang
The Ramseiderloipe in Saalfelden, together with the Saalach Loipe or the Ecking Loipe in Leogang are ideal for beginners and hobbyists. All 3 of these take you through flat, easy terrain. For those looking for a little more variety and a few more hills, the Dorfheim-Lenzing trail would-be more suitable.

Cross-country skiing in Saalfelden Leogang in Austria
Saalfelden-Leogang was the first cross-country skiing region in the province of Salzburg to be equipped with the new ÖNORM cross-country ski signage system, making it much easier for everyone to find their ideal trail. But there is also plenty for cross-country skiers away from the trails, in the service centres and cross-country ski schools that can not only give you tips on technique, but also offer suitable rental equipment.

Skimarathon Saalfelden
On the 4th and 5th February 2017, Saalfelden will, for the 10th time, be the venue for exciting competitions between ÖSV professionals and hobby cross-country skiers. There will be more than 500 starters from all over the world competing in 3 different disciplines. It is open to anyone who enjoys cross-country skiing.

Trails report

Cross-country skiing in Saalfelden Leogang

The trail network contains 150 km of cross-country skiing in the region, the first one in the province of Salzburg to be equipped with the new ÖNORM signage system. The extensive network of double tracks and skating tracks is carefully prepared every day, and the varying difficulty of the 18 trails offers something for every type of cross-country skier. The cross-country ski world championship trail at the Ritzensee lake is surely one of the most demanding ones in the region. The scope of trails is extended further by the many connecting trails into the neighbouring resorts of Maria Alm, Maishofen, and the biathlon World Cup metropolis, Hochfilzen.

Mario Seidl
ÖSV Nordic combination athlete

Trained athletes will find the World Championship circuit at the Ritzensee lake interesting; a very demanding trail across constantly changing terrain. The skating trail takes you partially through woodland, and is one of my favourite training routes, and thanks to the artificial snowmaking facilities, it is open until the spring. The trail is lit until 10 PM, giving you the chance of doing some great training in the evenings too.
